Black Art; Real Stories is literary magazine based in Iowa City with the goal of producing one issue each year. 

Our mission is to provide a safe space for minority voices at the through the promotion of creative writing, spoken word, singing, and all other artistic platforms.

It is important for minority groups, especially in communities with a much larger number of the majority, to feel they have a place where they can be themselves. We strive to provide unification-- and deepened empathy-- among all people through the cultivation, appreciation, and spread of creativity. 

Our goal is to appreciate all forms of art. Artistic forms such as playwriting, screenwriting, photography, and drawing are all mediums we look to incorporate in our issues.

Black Art; Real Stories appreciates all artistic expression, working with the goal to publish varies forms in order to reveal the beauty and diversity of each and every one.
