Our mission is to showcase the writing of Black students at the University of Iowa. We aim to create and support a Black arts community.

Black Art; Real Stories (BARS) is an initiative to capture and share the Black students' voices on campus that are often unheard and muted. The University of Iowa is host to the world renowned Writers' Workshop. The university is also the number one undergraduate English and Creative Writing program, however; there isn't a platform for our Black, undergraduate writers to express their creativity, wit, fears and struggles. That's where Black Art; Real Stories comes in. We provide the platform needed in our community here at the University of Iowa. We unify the Black community through the arts. Feel free to click on the "People" tab on the top of this page to get to know more about the Board of BARS. And as always, thank you for the love and support.
